Does she need a Maternity Health Insurance Policy?

Maternity health insurance is not a necessary insurance for most young, fit, healthy and mums-to-be with no family history of problematic births, but there are times when a female would like to at least think about this extra cover prior to conception. Notice I said ‘prior to conception?’ That’s right; you can’t take out pregnancy cover after you get pregnant no more than you can take out a health policy after an accident or getting sick. There may be the odd case where this would be permitted, providing the pregnant lady is in good health and not expecting any problems after she’s conceived, but even then it would cost considerably more than a policy taken out prior to conception.
It’s always a good idea to check your existing health care policy too, because it may just have you covered adequately during, at, and after birth. Just ask your insurance sales person who will surely have plenty of helpful advice for you should you need it.
Starting a family, having kids, and becoming a first time parent can be a daunting ordeal for many, but try not to stress about what might go wrong, and focus more on all that is wonderful and exciting about your situation. Talk to doctors and or midwives along the way, as they are a great source for peace of mind.
