One probably would never thing about fire sprinkler heads. You may walk into a government building and see the exposed piping and electrical conduit that is colored matched to the above ceiling. Walking into a high class restaurant you may be looking up at the lighting wondering what you are going to order for dinner and kind of look askance and see this really weird piping and sprinkler heads.
You ask, what is this stuff over my head and why does it look so ugly?
Well, when the place you visit to do business, live or just recreate, the fire marshall wants you to trust him for your safety. Which means, the meal you are going to eat has created a fire in the kitchen and for some unknow reason the Ansul system does not work,( this is the fire suppression above the cooking area) and the fire is spreading quickly and the fire suppression system is activated by heat and you and your dinner are drenched in water you can thank this water being distributed through the fire sprinkler heads.
There are many types of heads, bulb type where the bulb is broken by the heat and the plug is allowed to be released and the water mixture will flow. There is the solder type, which is a heat activated type.
There is the flush mount that is heat activated that when the heat is high enough the spring is released to push the head below the ceiling and is available to be triggered by higher heat.
In any situation you can be sure that a simple device like a fire sprinkler head is in your best interest for life safety in hazardous incidents.
